A small house, by design.

Select Africa Safaris is a private safari design house in Kenya. We take on a limited number of journeys, arrange each one from scratch, and would rather turn work away than do it at half the attention it deserves.

What we are

A design house, not a booking service.

Nothing we arrange comes off a shelf. Every journey is drawn for the people taking it.

We call ourselves a design house because that’s what the work actually is. A safari isn’t a product to be picked from a list — it’s a sequence of decisions about where to be, when, with whom, and at what pace, each of which changes everything downstream. Get the camp right but the season wrong and the trip disappoints. Get the guide right and an ordinary morning becomes the thing you talk about for years.

So we begin with a conversation rather than a catalogue. We ask what draws you, how you like to travel, who’s coming and why now — then build the journey around the answers, choosing each camp, guide, flight and hour deliberately. The itineraries you see on this site are illustrations of what’s possible, not packages to be bought.

And we stay small on purpose. A limited number of journeys at a time is the only way one person can hold every thread of yours — which is why you’ll always deal with a single trip director who knows your trip in detail, from first note to homecoming.

What we stand on

Four commitments

I

Independent

We own no camps and no aircraft, so we recommend on merit — never because something is ours to fill.

II

Small by design

A limited number of journeys at a time, so each receives the attention it actually needs.

III

Rooted in Kenya

Based here, guided by people from here — with the relationships and local knowledge that only come from proximity.

IV

Honest counsel

We’ll tell you when a plan won’t work, when a season is wrong, and when the answer is to spend less.

How we work

Independent advice, and one person who owns it.

Two structural choices shape everything else we do.

The first is independence. Because we don’t own the camps, lodges or aircraft we use, we have no inventory to fill and no reason to steer you anywhere but the right place. If a property has slipped, we stop using it. If your trip would be better in a region we hadn’t discussed, we’ll say so — even when it’s the smaller sale.

The second is single ownership. Your journey belongs to one trip director from the first message to the last flight home. Nothing is lost in a handover, no detail has to be explained twice, and when something changes on the ground there’s one person who already knows the whole picture. See private service.

Behind both sits the network that makes a safari work at this level: senior guides matched to your interests, aviation that removes the roads, camps chosen on merit, and the conservancy model that keeps the wild places wild.

In practice

What you can expect of us

One trip directorThe same person, first note to homecoming
Advice before sellingWhat we’d do, said plainly — including “not this”
Recommendations on meritWe own nothing we sell, so nothing needs filling
Written, itemised proposalsA firm all-in price, with exclusions stated
Discretion as standardNDAs across suppliers; no client names published
Contingency plannedWeather, health and change absorbed quietly
Local employmentGuides and camp teams drawn from the communities you visit
Honest caveatsWhat a safari can’t promise, said up front

What we’re not. We’re not a large operator with a call queue, not the cheapest way to see Kenya, and not a house that will tell you a camp is perfect when it isn’t. Wildlife is wild and weather is weather — we don’t promise sightings, and we don’t promise that nothing will ever change. What we do promise is that you’ll be told the truth and looked after when it does.

About the house

What exactly does a “safari design house” do?
We design and run private journeys from scratch: choosing the regions, camps, guides and flights, negotiating and booking them, briefing everyone on your preferences, and looking after the trip while you’re travelling. One trip director owns the whole thing from your first note to your return.
Do you own the camps or aircraft you use?
No — and that’s deliberate. Because we have no inventory to fill, our recommendations are made purely on merit. If a camp isn’t right for your trip, we’ll say so and suggest one that is. See accommodation.
Are you based in Kenya?
Yes. Being here is the point: it’s what gives us current, first-hand knowledge of camps and conditions, direct relationships with senior guides and operators, and people on the ground when something needs handling.
How many journeys do you take on?
Deliberately few at a time. A limited number is the only way one trip director can know your journey completely — the opposite of a large operator’s rotating queue. It’s the whole reason the service works.
Do you only arrange expensive trips?
We specialise in private, high-attention journeys, and those aren’t the cheapest way to see Kenya — we’re honest about that. But “expensive” isn’t the aim; the right trip is. If your budget is better spent on fewer nights done properly, or in a different season, we’ll tell you. See what a VIP Kenya safari costs.
Can you help if I already know exactly what I want?
Certainly. Some guests hand us a fully-formed plan and simply want it executed flawlessly; others start from a blank page. Both are welcome, and you can move between them as we go.

Tell us what you have in mind.

A note is enough to begin. One trip director will read it, reply personally, and design the journey from there.
