What defines it

The rarest thing here isn’t the wildlife — it’s the access, and the fact that your visit is part of the reason it survives.

Kenya’s greatest conservation stories are told behind gates most travellers never pass. On a private conservation safari you go through them — tracking black rhino on foot with the rangers who know each animal by name, standing with the vets and researchers whose work keeps a species from vanishing, and sitting with the communities who have chosen to protect wildlife on their own land.

Because it is real conservation, it is honest work rather than a show. Encounters happen around the operational priorities of the people doing them: a rhino notching or a collaring is joined only when one is genuinely scheduled, never staged for a visitor. What we arrange is true proximity to it — the introductions, the time, and a guide who can explain what you’re seeing and why it matters.

And it is designed so your presence counts. Conservancy fees fund rangers, fences and habitat directly; any philanthropic contribution you choose to make is directed in full to the project you care about, with a clear account of where it goes. You travel in complete comfort — and you leave having added to the ledger rather than drawn from it.

How much does a private conservation safari in Kenya cost?
Indicative pricing starts at around US$1,750 per person, per day. Sample journeys run from about US$7,800 for four nights in Laikipia, US$14,500 for seven nights across Laikipia and the northern conservancies, and US$21,500 for a ten-night, three-region journey — all per person sharing, in low-to-shoulder season. Does my trip actually help conservation, and where does the money go?
Yes. Every night on a private conservancy carries a fee that funds rangers, fences, monitoring and community programmes directly. On top of that, any philanthropic contribution you choose is directed in full to the specific project you name — and we give you a clear account of exactly where it goes. We’d rather be transparent about this than vague.
Can I see rhinos, or track them on foot?
Yes — in Laikipia’s sanctuaries and Kenya’s community rhino conservancies you can track rhino on foot with the rangers who protect them, at a close and ethical distance. As with all wildlife, sightings are never guaranteed, and encounters are always led by the rangers’ judgement and the animals’ welfare.
Will I meet rangers and researchers?
Wherever possible, yes — introductions to ranger teams, researchers and community leaders are a core part of these journeys. They are arranged around the teams’ operational priorities and are never staged for visitors, so the exact people and activities depend on what’s genuinely happening during your stay. We’ll tell you honestly what’s likely for your dates.
Is a conservation safari suitable for children?
Very much so — for many families it’s the most meaningful safari of all, and seeing rangers, rhino and community projects first-hand leaves a lasting impression on young travellers. Can I make a larger philanthropic gift, or get involved long-term?
Absolutely. Many guests choose to support a project well beyond their trip, and we can connect you directly with the conservancies and their leadership so your involvement is informed and goes where it’s needed most — whether that’s a one-off gift or an ongoing relationship.
Are wildlife-veterinary or rhino-notching experiences available?
Occasionally — and only when one is genuinely scheduled by the conservancy for conservation reasons, never arranged as a tourist spectacle. If a notching, collaring or veterinary operation happens to fall during your stay and the team is willing, we’ll do everything we can to include you. We’ll always be honest about what is and isn’t possible for your dates.
